Love Stories - Quila & Georiga
Each ring Quila and Georgia designed with Black Finch is a reflection of their individuality and togetherness—organic, practical, and rich with symbolism. With parti sapphires and waves that mirror one another, their bespoke pieces echo a love that is balanced, enduring, and full of heart.
When and how did you meet?
We met in October of 2021 through the dating app Hinge.
Our first date was a lovely picnic in the Melbourne Botanic Gardens, where we enjoyed a cheese board, a couple glasses of gin and tonic, and each other's company. Georgia forgot to bring a bottle opener for the tonics, so the date ended up being a team-building exercise to get the G&Ts happening. It was a successful task and a successful date!
When did you know you had found "the one"?
There were many moments along our journey where we each felt we had found the right person. We were immediately comfortable with each other when we started dating, which formed the strong foundation of support that we feel with each other as life partners. Early on in our relationship, Georgia moved to country Victoria, and navigating the long-distance brought us even closer together.
What is something that has surprised you about the other?
Quila: I have always seen the strength of will and courage Georgia has, and it still amazes me. Especially when she balanced the stress of work, study, rental crises and much more, her ability to pick herself up and even help others is incredible.
Georgia: Quila is never angry or unreasonable, he always approaches every situation with self-awareness and compassion. His kindness shines through in his constant gestures of service and love for the people he cares for. I had seen these qualities in him from very early on but I am amazed by how consistent he is!
How did the proposal go down?
We made a trip down to Tasmania for the weekend, and drove out from Launceston to Cradle Mountain in the early hours of morning. After a short hike out to Dove Lake at the foot of the mountain, we sat for a moment to enjoy the beautiful view. It was there sitting by the lake where we proposed to each other.
What were the most important factors when choosing your jeweller?
We were looking for a jeweller that felt local and had sustainable practices, which we could work collaboratively with to design unique rings together. We wanted to work with jewellers who were passionate and excited about creating custom designs that aligned with our vision.
Were there any specific design elements or details you wanted to include in your ring?
We knew from the beginning that we both wanted engagement and wedding bands, and were looking to have harmony between the designs.
Georgia: I knew I wanted a parti sapphire, and the stone we chose through Black Finch couldn’t have been more perfect. It incorporated so well into the organic shape concepts that we were interested in. I wanted pieces without claws or elements that might catch for work purposes. We loved the bezel-set designs that Black Finch had created previously, so we felt that we were in the right place to realise our dream rings.
Quila: I wanted an engagement ring that would be a subtle statement piece, something that would connect to Georgia's ring in design while being quite different from a traditional men's ring. I always imagined rings that could sit comfortably as a stack while also being able to be worn alone, I loved that we were able to make that design.
How do you feel your pieces reflect you individually and as a couple?
We each feel our pieces have an organic quality which resonates with us. The harmony of shape, colour and weight is a beautiful reflection of our balanced effort in our relationship. We wanted rings which felt right to us intuitively and also worked practically in daily life. The wave features in our wedding bands mirror each other, yet the way they sit differently under the engagement rings reflects our individuality.
We chose sapphires because we were excited by having some colour in the pieces, and the parti sapphire in particular has a unique blend of blues and greens which represent us together. We also love that the fancy yellow diamond brings some extra sparkle to the ring without pulling focus from the sapphire. The encrusted stone style is also an homage to Georgia’s mother’s engagement band.

Is there any advice you would give to other couples choosing their engagement rings?
Going in with an idea of what you want for rings is really helpful, trust your intuition when trying out designs and features, and trust the jeweller.
What plans have you made for your "big day"?
No booked plans yet! But we are enjoying the process of looking at venues together.
Is there anything else you'd like to share about your experience with Black Finch or your love story?
We’d like to say a big heartfelt thank you to Davina and the team at Black Finch. The whole process felt very individualised, and the excitement and support from the team was incredible. We had so much fun!
