Love Stories – Max and Lucy
We adore being a part of your love stories...
Our newest couple Lucy and Max have been together for well over a decade, starting as friends and evolving into lovers. With their hearts set on ethical, bespoke and local design, it was a match made in heaven as we crafted their individual engagement rings, a timeless pair that beautifully reflects their story, desires and journey together.
Find out how their unique proposal went down and their best advice for couples looking for the perfect engagement ring.
When and how did you meet?
We met in 2010, a few years before we started dating in 2012. We met through mutual friends on campus. We were both only 22.
How did the proposal go down?
Max: I took Lucy to Melbourne's botanic garden for shinrin-yoku (forest therapy). We found a secluded part of the garden where I read her a haiku before proposing with her engagement ring. We celebrated that afternoon at Reine & La Rue.
What were the most important factors when choosing your jeweller?
Ethical, bespoke and local. We wanted something that was 'us' – where we live and what we value.
Were there any specific design elements or details you wanted to include in your ring?
Lucy's engagement ring has a dark sapphire in the centre which I think lends to the classic solitaire look but breaks away with more personality having the multiple lighter stones. It's timeless and contemporary – a play of contrasting shades.
Max's ring is a play of contrasting finishes and colour. The colours of our birth stones were befittingly complementary.
How do you feel your pieces reflect you individually and as a couple?
We have been together for 12 years, we wanted something that was classic but reflected our time together. We've basically grown up together and learned to celebrate and support each others individuality. It's an amazing opportunity to put together these pieces of jewellery that encompassed that.
Is there any advice you would give to other couples choosing their engagement rings?
Definitely take your time and have fun. Play around with different ideas. I think you'll find yourself and each other in that.
What plans did you made for your big day?
We had our reception at Smith Street Bistrot. Amazing venue and staff.
