Love Stories – Kiera and Jodi

Love Stories – Kiera and Jodi

Despite Covid lockdowns and being in different states, fate found its way to our latest couple, Kiera and Jodi. Initially meeting in Weipa, a small remote mining town in Cape York with a population of only 4100, their love blossomed during a time of isolation and uncertainty. In fact, their first date was on the QLD-NSW border due to restrictions! Four years on, they’re keeping busy with a new bundle of joy and happily planning their big day for 2026.

Find out how their proposal went down and why the fourth time was a charm…

When and how did you meet one another?

We met in Weipa of all places – a small remote mining town in Cape York. I was working at the school and Jodi came to Weipa on placement; I was her supervisor.  After she had finished her placement and gone back to uni we kept in touch and eventually started to explore what was between us. This was complicated by Covid lockdowns and being in different states – we had our first date on the QLD-NSW border due to restrictions, and then Jodi had to do a 2 weeks hotel quarantine to enter QLD for our second date!

When did you know you had found your special person?

Kiera: Straight away I knew there was something special about her and that I wanted to get to know her and wanted her in my life somehow. It was like an itch in my brain from the moment I first met her. I don't think there was an exact moment I knew she was 'the one'. It was a million tiny moments and realising what a wonderful person she was and falling deeper in love.

When did you know you had found your special person?

Jodi: As soon as we met I wanted to get to know Kiera more. It didn't take too long to know she was someone I wanted in my life forever. Even though it took a bit of time to figure out what that was going to look like, I always knew she was a spectacular human to share a life with.

How did the proposal go down?

Kiera: We were pregnant and having a maternity photo shoot and I'd planned with the photographer to surprise Jodi. The shoot got postponed three times due to monsoonal rain; the 4th time we were all dressed and ready to go when it started to rain. By this point, I was so angsty and the rings were burning a hole in my pocket so I insisted we do the shoot regardless. We had taken lots of photos and then I pulled the box out of a pocket in my dress while Jodi was sitting on my lap. She had no idea it was coming which was lovely, as I was sure she had figured out what I was up to.

What are the wedding plans?

So far we've picked a date, but not much else as we've been a bit busy with a tiny new baby! But we are planning to have it on my parents property in North Queensland in 2026.

Can you share some words on your Black Finch experience?

The team were amazing. I had a very specific vision of two complementary rings and specific colours and they went out of their way to make the rings perfect. They were so patient with my million emails with a constant train of thought of possible ideas. Overall, it was a fantastic experience; can't wait for them to design our wedding rings soon!

Above: Kiera and Jodi's rings are identical yet complementary, the only difference being the focal stone colour – one being violet and the other, blue (in a pear cut), representing their favourite hues. Expressing their love for the colour pink, we also added a light pink and lilac sapphire to each ring, along with a cluster of smaller sapphires framed with white diamonds, set on 18ct white gold.
